Our teacher support strategy grew out of a joint effort between employers and educators to find better ways of aligning students’ school-based experiences to the workforce needs of central New Mexico. For the first two years of this strategy, we have been working closely with teachers at Rio Rancho Public Schools to create stronger partnerships with local employers, while supporting their professional development needs. As the strategy has grown, we are now exploring other opportunities to support teachers’ professional development needs across the four-county region, with a continued focus on workforce alignment.
This strategy currently has one project team. In 2016 and 2017, Mission: Graduate, in partnership with Rio Rancho Public Schools, held the Mathematics with Infinite Technology (MIT) Summer Teacher Academy. The Academy was an opportunity for teachers to become proficient in the use of technology to support their math instruction, while learning about workplace applications of math from local business professionals.
