Employers and Teachers team up at Valencia County 

The Valencia County Partnership for a Work Ready Community hosted Employer / Teacher Connection, a day of teacher professional development provided by employers.  

Fourteen employers and 28 teachers participated in the day. Employers delivered presentations and hands on activities that focused on Math, Science, Reading, and soft skills that are used in the workplace.

What I found most interesting and beneficial was the wide spectrum of businesses we have here in Valencia County. There are many things that I heard that I can take back to my classroom,” said Gretchen Lee the Valencia High School Social Studies Department head. “All of the businesses said that written word is vital so it’s important that we as educators stress it more.”   

Participating employers include: Air Force Research Labs, Aristech Surfaces, Belen Fire Department, Clariant Corporation, Facebook, Fortis Construction, Los Lunas Economic Development, Michael Griego Attorney, New Mexico PBS, Sisneros Brothers, Tierra del Sol, Tome Art Gallery, University of New Mexico (UNM) Valencia, and Valencia Animal Clinic. 

The event was held at UNM Valencia campus. Special thanks to Garden Gate Day Spa for donating the prize, and Rutillos for catering the lunch.
