This brief was prepared for the Mission: Graduate Career Exploration Metrics Working Group; this group has convened to discuss ways in which career exploration activities and career readiness could be measured in New Mexico. This brief builds an understanding of what it means for individuals to be career ready. Accomplishing this requires some knowledge about the definition of career readiness, measures and strategies related to career readiness, and employers’ recognition of career readiness.
This brief is organized around four key questions:

  • How is career readiness being defined locally and nationally?
  • What indicators are being used to measure career readiness?
  • What strategies are being used to prepare people to be career ready?
  • How do employers identify that an existing employee or a potential new hire is career ready?
